Much like real-life, New Horizons grasshoppers will start to appear now that the summer sun is shining. Players in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to catch grasshoppers from July-September, while those in the Southern Hemisphere can catch them from January-March. Further, the high jumping bugs can be found chilling in the grassy areas on your island from 8 AM – 5 PM local time.

To actually catch a grasshopper in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll simply need to sneak up behind them with a net and capture them before they hop away. Like most any bug, if you’re too loud, they’ll run away and disappear. However, if you sneak up on them, you should be able to catch them no problem. After you have a grasshopper or two in your possession, you’ll be able to sell them for 160 Bells or donate them to Blathers.

If you need a break from catching grasshoppers, there is a plethora of new fish that were introduced to the game this July as well. So if you need a change of pace, grab your fishing pole and some bait and head to the water. If you’re not tired of catching bugs yet, you can start preparing for the next Bug Off event which will task players with catching a certain number of bugs in a timed trial in exchange for some cool rewards.
