Guide to Extractions in Mistfall Hunter

Extraction is the key to more loot.

In Mistfall Hunter, extracting out of a hunt is as important as finding the best loot or beating the strongest enemy. There’s no point in finding all the valuable loot if you can’t get them out, right?

Extraction is actually a bit more complicated in Mistfall Hunter because it differs for maps. Here’s a quick guide explaining all these different types of extractions for all game modes.

How to Extract in All Maps in Mistfall Hunter

Hallowgrove

In Hallowgrove, there are two ways of extraction: through the Soul Tree or the Smuggler’s Woodling. When you run hunts in Hallowgrove, you can actually open the map and see the icons for extraction points. These extraction points take time to open and usually have a timer next to them, if they aren’t open yet.

Once they are open, a player or a team can go to it, see a Soul Tree, and summon the Woodling by activating it. Once activated, the Soul Tree spawns a wisp that shows you the direction of where the Woodling will spawn, which is usually just near the Soul Tree’s location.

The Woodling also takes time to spawn (also has a timer), but the main problem here is that if you activate the Soul Tree, it notifies everyone else that someone has activated a tree, meaning someone is already trying to escape. Since there are usually just two Soul Trees active at a time, it is easy to deduce where the extraction is happening, making it very dangerous for both the team trying to extract and the ones seeking to stop them from extracting (because it could be a bait).

Once the timer is done and the Woodling spawns, the player or team must defeat it and go around its soul to activate the bell. It takes a few seconds to ring the bell, and the light will show from above, and each player still needs to go to the light and tap the escape button.

For the Smuggler’s Woodling extraction, there’s usually just an icon on the map, similar to the normal extraction, but if you hover over it, it’ll say it is the Smuggler’s Woodling extraction point. The Smuggler’s Woodling extraction is mostly for emergency cases only, as you are only allowed to extract three items with you, along with your equipped loadout. The extraction is instant since you just need to talk to the NPC at the extraction point and select all the items you want to take out.

The extraction is safer, quicker, and more convenient, but mostly used if you are having a rough hunt, lacking consumables, forgot something, just wanted to finish a task, or got something amazing and want to extract it out fast.

In Hallowgrove (Chaos), the only main difference is that there is a “Ferry” extraction where you need to find Soul Threads, a match-exclusive item with the sole purpose of handing it to the Ferryman to extract using the Soul Ferry extraction. Each player needs two Soul Threads to use the Ferry, and they drop from defeating players and other random sources (rare).

The normal extraction (Soul Tree) is still there, but there is only one available.

Brandrgarde

For Brandrgarde, the extraction is way more complicated. The map is played similarly to what you would see in Battle Royale games, where the map is slowly getting smaller because of a circle or ring engulfing the map, where players outside the ring get damaged. The mechanic is the Gyldenmyst where if you are outside the circle and on the Gyldenmyst, you have another HP bar (looks like a stamina bar above your health bar), where if it runs out, you start taking massive damage. The “Gyldenmyst bar” depletes fast, so it is extremely dangerous to stay in the myst.

Knowing this mechanic is crucial before learning to extract since there’s a timing that players often forget related to extracting, which will be explained more later.

To extract in Brandrgarde, you’ll also need to find the Woodlings, but there are no Soul Trees to summon them. Instead, the Woodlings spawn randomly in terms of direction, but the timing of their spawn is consistent. Multiple Woodlings spawn every time the Gyldenmyst closes up or becomes smaller. You can see under the minimap that there are “Phases,” which are basically each phase that the Gyldenmyst closed or got smaller.

When the Gyldenmyst closes, Woodlings spawn, but they cannot be located through the map or the minimap. Instead, you are alerted by a blue sonar icon of their location only if you are near one. If you aren’t near one, you have to roam around and find them. When the blue sonar turns red, it means that the Woodling is being attacked, which is a nice trick to know if there are enemy players nearby as well.

Once the Woodling dies, a player will loot the Woodling and get a Soul of Return. If a player picks up a Soul of Return, they have the ability to ring the ball and extract (not possible when downed). However, every single player needs their own Soul of Return to extract, which makes the game harder to play, especially if you don’t know your other teammates.

A player may use the Soul of Return and leave their party during the hunt at any given time. But, the player may choose to continue and still search for more Woodlings to help other teammates get their Soul of Returns. The problem here is that the early phases of Woodling spawns only drop one Soul of Return. In the other phases, the Woodling drops two, and in the last phase (last small circle before the Gyldenmyst engulfs the map), the Woodling drops three Souls of Return.

If you are the last party alive in the hunt, it should always be safe to extract out of the hunt as long as you stay outside the Gyldenmyst and find the last Woodling. This is worth knowing so that you don’t panic and try to extract sooner than needed.

This mechanic calls for a common courtesy to extract everyone safely before going out, with just a few exceptions. However, you cannot trust randoms to follow this, making it extremely hard to play Brandrgarde with a random team.
