A new weapon is available in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 called the Plasma Cannon. It’s a Legendary Pistol and has the ability to fire five plasma balls that deal damage and have the ability to destroy structures almost instantly.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 | How to Get Plasma Cannon
The new Plasma Cannon weapon in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 is a type of Legendary Pistol. It can be found in IO Chests and regular Chests or it can be manually crafted by combining a regular Legendary Pistol with the crafting material Alien Nanites.
Based on our time hunting for the Plasma Cannon in Fortnite, the easiest way to get one is through an IO Chest. You can find IO Chests at different Dish locations as well as Corny Complex. Below, we’ve listed all of the places where you can find IO Chests.

- Deep Woods Dish
- Defiant Dish
- Destined Dish
- Dinky Dish
- Dirty Docks
- Dockside Dish
- Corny Complex
These locations can also be seen marked in the map image at the top of this guide. Once you’re at one of these locations, your next order of business is finding an IO Chest or two to open.
We had a lot of luck at Dockside Dish in particular which is located near Lake Canoe.
IO Chests are opened just like regular Chests. Inside, you’ll find IO weapons and resources (and often an Inflate-A-Bull). It may take you opening a few different IO Chests before you’re rewarded with a Plasma Cannon.
We opened two before we got our first Plasma Cannon. Interestingly enough, the next IO Chest we opened also contained a Plasma Cannon. The drop rate for the Plasma Cannon out of IO Chests seems to be higher than the drop rate out of regular Chests, but we can’t explicitly confirm this so please take this info with a grain of salt.
Epic Games did specifically say you can get a Plasma Cannon out of a regular Chest in the blog post for the v17.21 update, so in the event you don’t want to track down an IO Chest, searching regular Chests is another way to get one.
You can also find Legendary Pistols in regular Chests which can then be crafted into Plasma Cannons using Alien Nanites.

Based on our experience with the weapon, the plasma ball fired by the Plasma Cannon seems like it’s better for destroying buildings and rooting out enemies as opposed to damaging enemies directly.
The plasma ball also feels reminiscent of the one you can shoot out of UFOs when you’re flying them, which is also great for destroying buildings. No matter which way you decide to use the Plasma Cannon, the important thing to remember is they can often be found in IO Chests at Dish locations like Dockside Dish and at Corny Complex.
They can also be found in regular Chests and crafted manually by combining a regular Legendary Pistol with Alien Nanites in Fortnite.
