Stick the Landing

The first thing you need to know when you drop into a game is what to do. Your primary goal in the opening moments is going to be to find somewhere to drop in at on the map, and then make your way to the ground. You can open up your Map by pressing M. You can also click on the map to set a waypoint, which can then be seen on your compass to help guide you to where you want to go. Check out our guide on some of the best places to land to get the help you need deciding on a good spot.

On the Ground

Once you land on the ground, it’s time to start looking for gear. There are several different weapons and weapon rarities to find, and we’ve cataloged all of the weapons and weapon stats for you already. There are also several different items like shield potions, first aid kits and bandages. Look out for these items, while also watching your back because other players will be looking just as hard as you ar.

It’s important to always keep an ear open for the sparkling sound of a nearby chest. Chests are the best way to get high-quality loot without having to look all around the map and search through buildings. Learn how to loot up fast to get ahead of your enemies and be ready for anything.

Combat Basics

If you happen to engage any enemies, it’s important to know all about combat building. We’ve already covered combat building in detail, but don’t think of your ability to build solely as a way to get to higher ground. If you build a fortification around you, even a small one, it will protect you from bullets and other dangers. If you build a ramp when engaging an enemy, it will give you a small height advantage for the current skirmish.

Avoid the Storm

When you’ve acquired your first pieces of gear, it’s time to start looking forward to the next part of the match. Every couple of minutes or so the arena will get smaller, with an electric field-like storm slowly circling in around a designated playing area. It’s important to check your map to see where the new play area is, and make sure you are set up to get there without any big issues. There aren’t any vehicles in Fortnite Battle Royale, so you’ll need to run the entire way. Make preservations for this and then start moving when the timer gets low.

From here, Fortnite Battle Royale is all about staying hidden, taking out enemies, and just surviving. You can check out our advice on how to win for some more helpful tips, or head over to our Fortnite Battle Royale guide to see all of our Fortnite Battle Royale content in one handy place.
