What are Atoms in Fallout 76?

Atoms are a new type of in-game currency in Fallout 76 that players can spend on new customizations, including new skins, emotes, icons, and apparel. These cosmetic items are purchased through the Atomic Shop. To access the Atomic Shop, simply bring up the Main Menu screen in-game and navigate to the Atomic Shop section to view what’s on offer.

It’s worth noting that your Atoms and Atomic Shop purchases are not tied to a specific character. Cosmetic items that you purchase are shared across your whole account, so you can apply anything you buy from the Atomic Shop to all of your created characters. After purchasing an item from the Atomic Shop, you will likely need to craft the item at a Workbench for it to become available.

How to Get Atoms

There are two ways to get Atoms in Fallout 76. The primary method for earning Atoms is by completing Challenges throughout Appalachia. To find the full list of available Challenges, bring up your map and navigate to the Main Menu. Select the Challenges section to view a categorized list of challenges that are available for you to complete.

Each Challenge in Fallout 76 will have an Atom value beside it. Atoms are automatically obtained upon completing a challenge, and you can view your total Atoms in the bottom right corner of the Atomic Shop.

Challenges in Fallout 76 typically involve completing tasks like killing a number of animals, collecting specific plants, crafting certain items, etc. When you complete a challenge, a notification will appear in the lower left corner of the screen. Typically, the more difficult a challenge is to complete, the higher its Atom reward will be.

The Daily and Weekly Challenges are available for a limited time before cycling out for a new set, while the rest of the Challenges are permanent. Select the Daily and Weekly Challenge tabs to see how much time is left before they refresh. A checkmark will appear beside each Challenge that you have completed. We suggest going for the temporary Challenges first to earn some quick Atoms before they expire, as you can always finish the other Challenges later.

The other way to get Atoms in Fallout 76 is to simply purchase them using real money. You can do this from within the Atomic Shop by selecting the Purchase Atoms button indicated at the bottom of the screen. While this method isn’t ideal, it is the faster option for getting Atoms if you have some extra cash to spare.

Here’s how the Atom prices break down in Fallout 76:

  • 500 Atoms – $4.99
  • 1000 Atoms (+100 Bonus) – $9.99
  • 2000 Atoms (+400 Bonus) – $19.99
  • 4000 Atoms (+1000 Bonus) – $39.99

In summary, you can either earn Atoms for free by completing Challenges, or speed up the process by purchasing Atoms directly through the Atomic Shop using real-world money.  Keep the Atomic Shop in mind if you want to look fly while slaying Radroaches out on the wasteland in Fallout 76.
