The new Pit of Heresy dungeon in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is out, and it's a crucial component of acquiring the Xenophage Exotic machine gun. If you're unfamiliar with how to get to this new content, we've got a guide for that. However, for those who have already found it and are at the recommended Power level, then read on for our Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy walkthrough so that you can have the satisfaction of completing it.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - Dungeon Guide
You're going to want to be Power level 940 before you crack into the Pit of Heresy. This isn't an optional requirement, so make sure that you and your Fireteam have what they need in terms of equipment going forward. Since you know that you'll be fighting the Hive, keep that in mind when planning your loadouts. The theme of this dungeon is basically runic puzzles.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - First Encounter
The first encounter isn't difficult: it's about matching runs and killing different types of enemies with an item. You'll note a number of towers that have Hive runes as part of the landscape. Enter the first tower, and you'll be able to see the remaining three and their respective runes. You'll also pick up a relic from this first tower. Now, your job is to go to each tower and kill the enemies in it with a specific method via your relic based on the runes observed.
- Kill Shriekers by reflecting their attacks at them
- Kill Knights by meleeing them
- Kill Wizards by shooting them
Doing this will open up an exit and grant you with some loot.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - Second Encounter
The second encounter kicks off after you've reached a wall that's packed full of, well, doors. You might recognize this from our Xenophage guide. Essentially, ignore all the doors and look for a gap in the wall which will be on your right. Head through, and you'll arrive in a room that branches off into tunnels. Your job is to kill any Knights that you see for their void orbs. Take these orbs to the doors that are being protected by Hive Ogres in the area, and do this three times at three different doors to complete the encounter.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - Third Encounter
Your job will be made vastly easier in terms of coordination for this encounter so long as phase two and how the void orbs work. Essentially, your only job here is to outlive waves of Hive enemies and to blast through a wall that's gated by six Hive runes. You'll get debuffs over time that will wipe you, and the only way to cleanse these is to kill Knights and to dunk their void orbs in the vessel by the door that bars your way to the next encounter. You need to deposit orbs to work on the runes, so just keep an eye on your team's debuffs and make sure that you're depositing enough orbs to clear the six Hive runes. Voila! You'll be able to kick down the door and proceed.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - Fourth Encounter
This is a jump puzzle, which all of us Guardians are familiar with at this point in time. Again, it's a matter of runes and doors. To open the main door that blocks your way, you have to identify a tower in the area that is marked with the rune that's on the door - you do this by going from platform to platform for a better view. Once you find towers with the matching rune, hop over there and kill the enemies inside to get rid of the rune that keeps the door locked. On to the fifth encounter.
Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy Walkthrough - Fifth Encounter
This is it - the big boss fight. Now, you're going to be using a lot of the same mechanics that you used in earlier parts of the dungeon. You were practicing for this. Your job, should you choose to accept it, will be to deposit void orbs in three vessels. To get these void orbs, you'll have to kill Knights to obtain their relics, and to kill either a Knight, Shrieker, or Witch in a corresponding tower. Once the dead enemy drops an orb, get someone on your Fireteam to dunk it. Once all the vessels have orbs, you'll be able to damage the boss so long as you stand on green-marked area in the map. Duck his charge attack, and rinse and repeat the above process til he's dead. That's it!
Completing the Destiny 2 Pit of Heresy dungeon will give you a fully masterworked piece of Pinnacle gear, which is one hell of a sweet treat - forget about Eris Morn's candy capers.
