Players who are jumping into the new Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals update will be forced to complete the In the Face of Darkness quest when they first arrive. This mission won’t be too hard and will unlock the Seed of Silver Wings seasonal artifact. In this guide, we are going to give you a step by step walkthrough for the Destiny 2 In the Face of Darkness quest.

If you’ve been keeping up with Destiny 2 news, you’ll likely know that the Season of Arrivals is the final update before the Beyond Light expansion drops this fall. So, you’ll want to make your way through the quests sooner rather than later, so you’ll be ready for the expansion. You’ll need to start by completing the In the Face of Darkness quest, as it’ll begin automatically when you hop into the update. Below is a quick rundown of the steps needed to complete the mission.

  • Rescue Eris Morn
  • Visit Drifter
  • Participate in the new Contact Public Event
  • Visit Drifter and use the Umbral Decoder
  • Play a match of Gambit, Crucible, or Strike (Taken Their Energy)
  • Visit Drifter
  • Refining the Reactor
  • Visit Drifter
  • Charging Speed

As you begin the Season of Arrivals update, you’ll need to rescue Eris Morn by fighting off a handful of enemies. Once you’ve done that, head to the Tower and speak with The Drifter in the Annex to unlock the Seed of Silver Wings seasonal artifact. This artifact is only available during the season and will allow you to gain the necessary power needed to help win the fight against the Darkness.

With the Seed of Silver Wings artifact in hand, you’ll now need to participate in the new Contact public event on Io. It’s important to note that you merely need to complete the public event, you won’t have to actually win. Once you’ve finished up the event you’ll receive an Umbral Engram that you’ll need to show to The Drifter.

Upon arrival, speak with The Drifter and show him the Engram. You’ll then need to deposit the Umbral Engram into the Umbral Decoder, which is located in the same room as Drifter to his left. Speak to The Drifter once more and you’ll be given the next step in the In the Face of Darkness quest, Taken Their Energy.

This step is simple and will merely require players to compete in a match of Gambit, Crucible, or Strike. At the end of the match, you’ll need to return to The Drifter to receive the Drifter’s Secret Stockpile along with the next step, Refining the Recaster.

For this step, simply interact with the Prismatic Recaster, which is left of the Umbral Decoder, and deposit 500 Twisted Energy. Navigate to the Gifts of Light and Dark screen and unlock the “Umbral Enhancement I” upgrade. From there simply open Umbral Focusing and choose the type of Umbral Engram that you like. Speak with The Drifter one final time to receive the Charging Speed task, and then go back to the Prismatic Recaster to unlock a new mission and complete the Destiny 2 In the Face of Darkness quest.
