Each hero in Death Must Die has plenty of different stats that will affect their chances of besting the Underworld God himself. Luck is one of them, and while it may not seem that appealing at first, it might be much more important than you think.
Luck Stat in Death Must Die Explained
Luck increases the chance of activating chance-based God’s blessings or items. It won’t affect things like your Evading chance, getting better blessings or dropping more/better items as all of these have their own separate chance multiplier.
The stat is best used for those powerful Blessings that can carry you through the whole run but have a small activation chance. Let’s take Chains of War as an example.
Chains of War has a chance of activating for every normal Attack you use, and that chance increases depending on the Blessing’s rarity/level. Chains of War has 14% of activating here, but it becomes 30% since I have 16% extra Luck on Nixi.
This makes the stat invaluable for builds that rely on such Blessings. Chains of War is one of the best DPS tools you can get from Krom, so it’s a good reason for stacking some extra Luck. Another good example is Mort’s Soulstealers blessing. Certain Unique items also have some special Passive attacks that have a Chance % of activating, so building some Luck to support them is also viable.
A curious example is Skaldi’s Sign of the Cosmos perk, as the chances of her applying her Status effects are directly increased by your luck. Nixi’s Sign of the Rabbit Perk also affects your Luck directly, so it’s the go-to choice for Luck-based builds with her.
How to Increase Luck in Death Must Die
Luck is increased by either equipping certain pieces of Gear with it as a substat or by picking up Shrines throughout the graveyard during your run. Both methods are RNG-related at the end of the day, so increasing your Luck is not as simple as it seems. You’ll need to attempt some high-difficulty runs to get a chance to drop some good gear, but nothing guarantees that it’ll have the stats you’re looking for.
In the same vein, Shrines are completely randomized when you start a run, so you cannot predict whether you’ll find some luck-based ones or not. But they’re always welcome when you do, and you can stack some inhumane amounts of Luck if you’re…eh, lucky enough.
Ironically, it all comes down to your IRL luck to increase your in-game Luck. The same could be said for unlocking some of the game’s many achievements. You’ll just have to keep trying until you get lucky, in both senses.
