Cyberpunk 2077 Badlands – Location and the Nomads

In Cyberpunk 2077, the Badlands surround Night City and is the area’s seventh district. It is described by developers as a “dead, dried out space” that players can explore in their car or motorcycle. The Badlands is home to a group of enemies called the Nomads, who travel across the wasteland in large convoys. It seems that the Nomads will only reside in the Badlands, and will likely cause players a lot of trouble while players are in the area.

Further, it seems that while the Badlands isn’t one of the “main” locations in Night City, it will be home to some specific “open-world content” that players will be able to play through. Developers shared during the June Night City Wire stream that the area has been “prepared specifically for you [the player] to get that awesome feel of the Badlands as an area.” At the time of writing, it’s unclear if the main story will take players to the Badlands, or if this will be an area that players can explore as part of the game’s side quests or open-world missions. Further, players that want to know more about everything Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer will “have to play the game,” according to the game’s lead quest designer Pawel Sasko.

The footage shown in the June Night City Wire stream was from the game’s prologue, so it seems we’ve only seen a glimpse of what Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer. Developers did reveal that another Night City Wire stream would be announced “soon,” so it’s possible we will learn more about the Badlands location then as well.

The June stream also gave us a look at a feature in the game called Braindance, which will allow players to experience another character’s memories and emotions through a VR-like experience. While we don’t know a lot about its use in the game, it seems the Braindancing will help give players a bit of info about some of the history of Night City and its residents. We also learned that players who purchase the game on an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4 will be able to play the game for free on an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 and will receive some type of free next-gen upgrade.
