Captain Traunt is one of the bosses in Borderlands 3, and he’s definitely a formidable enemy in his own right. It could be the fact that he’s exceptionally tanky, elementally gifted (read: gifted with access to powerful weapons), or the pinnacle of Heavy enemies that you’ve barely avoided getting mulched by. Whatever it is, he’s a tough cookie. Let our Captain Traunt Borderlands 3 guide help you take him down.

Captain Traunt Borderlands 3 Guide: How to Defeat Captain Traunt

When you’re about to wrap up your journey in Athenas, one thing is going to stand between you and glory: Captain Traunt. Now, don’t let the name fool you. This isn’t your average schoolyard bully, and if you’re whacking into the game solo, then you’re going to have to make sure that you’re not the one getting stuffed in a locker by the end of it. Need a little advice? You’re in luck, because we have it in spades.

Captain Traunt Borderlands 3 Guide: Hit his back

A lot of enemies in the game have a weak spot. Luckily enough for you, Captain Traunt’s is pretty huge and pretty obvious. You’re going to want to shoot this dude in the back, particularly on the gigantic generator that’s just hanging out there. That might be easier said than done since he’s pretty mobile and likes throwing himself right at you the minute you try to put distance between yourself and him. His shield is going to prove tough if you’re not geared enough, so make sure that you’re concentrating on whittling that down before attacking the generator from afar.

Captain Traunt Borderlands 3 Guide: If in doubt, hit his face

If you’re caught in front of him after a particularly vicious leap and you can’t quite reach the generator on his back, then our next best tip is to just make sure that you whip out a shotgun and go fo the face. If you’re smart about hitting him hard in the head, it’ll actually stun him: this will give you more time to work on his large health bar.

Captain Truant Borderlands 3 Guide: Shock weapons are your friend

One good thing about Borderlands 3 is that once you’ve seen your fair share of enemy types, you’ll realize that certain weapons are much more effective than others when it comes to hitting up different weak spots. For enemies that have their shields up, we would recommend Shock weapons. Taking down Captain Traunt’s shield is going to make him much more vulnerable to your attacks i.e. his health bar is going to take a hell of a beating from you knocking that generator and any other part of him, so make sure to prioritize that.

Now that you have our Captain Traunt Borderlands 3 guide in hand, you should be an old hat at taking him down whether or not you’ve got the luxury of doing this with a bunch of other mates.
