Can You Continue Your Save File in Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 Launch?
Save those pets everybody!
After a little over a year, Abiotic Factor finally launches on July 22, 2025. With all the new features, items, traders, and the final chapter, how will your previous save file work in Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 launch?
Should you do something before updating the game? Is it better to start a new game? Can you even continue your old save file? Here are all the answers!
Can You Use Your Old Save File in Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 Patch?

The good news is that you can still load your old save file when Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 launches. However, there are some changes you should be aware of, especially for those who have made significant progress in the game.
First, before you update Abiotic Factor to 1.0, you should take out your pests from the traps and wheels. Any pet inside cages or wheels will be lost when you update the Abiotic Factor to 1.0.
This also means that if you updated the Abiotic Factor to 1.0 or freshly reinstalled the game to play again after the update, you have no choice but to get some new pests again.
Secondly, Skink owners need to put their pets to roam or hold them in their inventory. They can also get lost in the update.
Thirdly, players with existing Teleporter tags will now get renamed to fixed tags from Alpha to Zulu (A-Z). You have the whole alphabet to categorize all your teleporters, but that also means that the cap will be at 26. If you have more than 26 teleporters before the update, several teleporters will have the tag “Zulu” on them.
Should You Restart from the Beginning in Abiotic Factor’s 1.0 Launch?

Abiotic Factor’s Design Director Geoff Keene, also known as Zag, has this to say:
Hey Scientists!
We’ve made a lot of balance and quality of life updates from the start of the game to the end, as well as some more lore and craftable items throughout the game. A big one includes the Enhancement Bench, which lands around Manufacturing tier. This will definitely be a large change to how you fight and what you make around this part of the game. Starting a new world save when 1.0 lands will give you a more “intended” playthrough with more tools at your disposal, but if you don’t want to do that, that’s fine too. I’m not going to make you do anything. I’m not your dad.
There you have it. He’s not your dad.
All jokes aside, as someone who thoroughly enjoys survival-crafting games, restarting a playthrough that had taken upwards of 50 hours feels tragic. I had a lot of experience with these, such as Satisfactory’s 1.0 launch, Factorio’s Space Age, V Rising’s 1.0 launch, or even every Anno 1800 DLC.
All complete playthroughs restarted. It feels bad at first, but with all the knowledge you have on the game, it starts coming back, and everything feels much smoother.
As Geoff Keene said, there are loads of balancing and quality of life changes, including some new items in the Manufacturing tier of a playthrough. This means that if you are way past the Manufacturing tier, it wouldn’t feel right to just have those new items or they might even feel underwhelming.
I would highly recommend starting another playthrough. You have a lot of things to look forward to with the launch.
