Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cross Platform – How Does It Work?

Cross Platform play has become a trendy topic in the video game industry, especially with the high level of success Fortnite Battle Royale has seen with the feature. This interest is why there was plenty of curiosity surrounding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as the next entry in the popular first-person shooter franchise will support cross platform play between Xbox One, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and PC players. The official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer reveal for the new title gave the community a closer look to some of the inner workings of how cross platform play will work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. One of these informational tidbits came by way of Charlie Intel. The media outlet revealed how players could see what kind of input device a player is using on the far right side of the game’s multiplayer lobby. This fact means before a match begins, players will be able to see how many individuals are using a controller or a keyboard and mouse. 

If you see the lobby in the gameplays, when in the pre-match lobby, the far right shows either a controller or mouse icon for each player to indicate their input device.

Unfortunately, Charlie Intel went on to report that no details regarding how exactly matchmaking will work with cross platform play in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare were made available. The outlet said more information is scheduled to be revealed closer to the release of the game’s Beta.

The consensus in the community is that the cross platform play of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have players matchmake with those using the same input device. However, if you have a party of players with both controllers and keyboard and mouse, you will then be matchmade into lobbies with players using both kinds of input devices. There are still questions on whether or not Xbox and PlayStation players will play in mixed lobbies for only controller players or if they will have their separate matchmaking system unless playing in a party of diverse platforms.
