Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War: Beta Dates and Access Guide

How to get in early, and when!
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

After months of teasing and ARG shenanigans, we’re on the open road of annual Call of Duty release marketing. We’ve had the game reveal featuring the campaign story, and just this week we saw the Multiplayer reveal event. So it makes sense that we now know when the beta testing will get started. Before, we knew how to get early access, but all the details are out in the wild now.

How and When the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Will be Available

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to launch on current platforms on November 13, 2020. It is unclear if the next-gen versions will be available at launch, and we probably won’t know the answer there until Sony spills the PS5-flavored beans. Many November 13 dates have been pushed back to November 10 after the ad-hoc Xbox date reveal, but for now it’s hard to say.

Beta windows for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will run across two separate weekends, with PlayStation 4 customers getting the special treatment. The first weekend is exclusive to PS4 owners, with the Open Beta running from October 10 to October 12. Digital pre-orders entitle customers to early access, which starts on October 8. Meanwhile, players on other platforms will have to wait for the “Crossplay Beta”, which will take place from October 17 to October 19. Early access digital pre-orders are relevant here as well, so that will take place for PC and Xbox players from October 15 to October 16. PS4 players will also be able to join during this time as an additional Open Beta phase.

Currently, we don’t know what sort of content the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Open Beta will contain. In the past the testing phases have included just a small sampling of content, so you can probably expect the usual breadth here as well. Hopefully we’ll get a taste of one or more of the new gameplay modes, such as Combined Arms, which incorporates vehicles alongside the normal infantry battles.

Do you have a pre-order locked in already, and are jonesing for those beta floodgates to open? Or are you waiting until the beta goes open so you can try the game without investing the money yet? Let us know what you think over at the Prima Games Facebook and Twitter channels!
