“#boycottEA”: Why Are EA FC 24 Players Uninstalling The Game?

Not cool!

In the last 24 hours, many EA FC 24 players have uninstalled their beloved football video game and took to social media platform X to get the hashtag “#boycottEA” trending. This comes right after a major incident that took place earlier on the evening of May 10, after the launch of Ligue 1 TOTS. It appears that a significant portion of the community has had enough.

Is “#boycottEA” Connected With EA FC 24?

There are several IPs and video games under the wings of EA. However, the recent community backlash they’re facing is all down to EA FC 24. A couple of evenings ago, there was a significant incident with the Champions Finals rewards. For a brief period, players could get amazing cards from the Red Picks, which included the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.

Many were hopeful that they would be able to find these fantastic cards from their rewards. However, EA Sports tweeted that there was an incident with the rewards, which has now been corrected. In simpler words, the developers said that the community earning premium rewards was a mistake, and the odds of earning them have since been altered.

On one hand, only some players could take advantage of this incident. On the other hand, EA Sports practically confirmed that the community is supposed to earn weaker cards from the Champions Finals. In case you’re wondering, Champions Finals is the most competitive mode, and to get a Red Pick, you’ll need to win at least 9 matches out of 20.

Why are EA FC 24 Players Using “#boycottEA”?

This isn’t the first time that EA Sports has managed to mess up in a big way. Earlier in January 2024, some players were able to unlock Lionel Messi’s TOTY item due to a glitched SBC. EA Sports was quick to remove the SBC, which angered many. The recent saga with the Ligue 1 TOTS red picks is a much bigger issue.

EA Sports has made it pretty clear that getting great cards from the rewards is not intended. The only option for players is to open store packs with steep prices. Since the incident, many content creators and players have joined the virtual movement of uninstalling the game and tweeting using the “#boycottEA” hashtag.

It remains to be seen how EA Sports responds to this issue, as several major content creators have also taken a stand. While there are plenty of fundamental problems related to gameplay and Ultimate Team in general, the recent incident has infuriated many. Such is the extent that some have even deleted their entire squads in Ultimate Team, despite all the fantastic Ligue 1 TOTS content that’s available at the moment.
