Which PS4 Should I Buy on Black Friday?
If you somehow don’t own a PlayStation 4 yet, there will be no better time to buy one than Black Friday, so the question then becomes which to buy? The PS4 Pro, which is the only model to support 4K TVs, is likely to be bundled with games to give consumers a discount on its usual price, while retailers will be keen to sell through PS4 Slim and perhaps even older vanilla PS4 units during this heightened period of consumer activity.
The key question is really whether 4K matters. If you’re thinking of making the jump to a 4K TV any time in the next year, you probably want to go with a PS4 Pro to futureproof yourself. But if you’re not, there probably isn’t much point. There are marginal improvements to performance in games from a PS4 Pro at 1080p – particularly with PlayStation VR – but it probably isn’t worth the extra money. PS4 Slim or a regular PlayStation 4 would be fine.
As for which of those to buy, you may not even see the older model, but if you do then just give a bit of thought to hard disk space. PS4 Slim offers 1TB, whereas regular PlayStation 4 is generally 500GB unless you upgrade. Modern games use a lot of space, so if you’re the sort of person who likes to dive in and out of multiple games each week, the larger hard disk is going to be worth it. It would suck to pick up a great bundle of games on Black Friday and then have to keep deleting and reinstalling game data just to play them!
What is Black Friday
Black Friday officially takes place on November 25, 2016. However, with each passing year stores open earlier and earlier. This past year most stores opened on Thursday evening, with some even opening early Thursday morning. It’s also not uncommon to find “Black Friday” deals in the weeks leading up to the big day, which is why we’ve published this article so early. We want you to be ready as soon as those first deals come online.
Of course the name “Black Friday” comes from the Philadelphia police department when they quickly realized that the huge sales meant massive crowding and a lot more work for them. While it may have started as a negative term, these days it just means some of the best deals you’ll find all year, followed by even more awesome online deals on Cyber Monday, the Monday that follows Black Friday.
