Anyone looking for the Spear of Night in the Temple of Shar will need to silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3. To put that song to rest within the library, players are tasked with solving the Riddle of the Night, and I’ll help you find only the only item needed to claim the spear as your own in this guide.

How to Solve the Riddle of the Night in BG3

In order to Silence the Nightsong and Solve the Riddle of the Night, you need to place the “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger” book on the altar. The book itself is found all the way on the southeastern side of the Silent Library. If you start from the library’s entrance, you can look toward the right-hand side, where bookcases line the wall.

Search these bookcases until you find the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger book. You don’t even need to read what’s inside. Just place it in your inventory and head back to the northern side of the Silent Library, where the Riddle of the Night altar is waiting.

Have whichever character holds the book interact with the Riddle of the Night altar in Baldur’s Gate 3. From here, you can take the book out of your bag and place it into the slot. Combine the items, and then you will have officially silenced the Nightsong in BG3.

How to Solve the Riddle of the Night Solution in BG3:

  • Search the bookcases on the southeastern side of the Silent Library.
  • Loot the book titled “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.”
  • Take the book to the Riddle of the Night altar.
  • Place the book on the altar to silence the Nightsong.

Once you complete every step, the door on the other side of the cage will open, and you have access to the Dark Justiciar relics. These include armor, a rare helmet, and the Spear of Night. For the Shadowheart questline, that spear is integral.
