Assassin’s Creed Mirage: How To Fix “Try A Different Game or App” Glitch On Xbox Consoles

Can't get into Baghdad? Find out the fix here.

If you’re anything like me, you may have experienced a bit of heartbreak when trying to play Assassin’s Creed Mirage on your Xbox console. While I’ve had my Series X for almost 3 years at this point, I had yet to encounter the fabled “Try A Different Game Or App” issue, but Mirage is a game of firsts in more ways than one, it seems. Other players seem to be reporting this issue, as well, so let’s try and troubleshoot the newest Assassin’s Creed title so we can get back into the streets of Baghdad and get back to stabbing our foes once again.

If you’ve never encountered this particular error before, it can be genuinely terrifying. It’s hard to know in the age of digital games if something gets pulled off of store shelves, even though your license and information should stay on your console. Thankfully, this is a pretty easy glitch to fix, even if it may require a fair bit of your time to get back up and running.

When you try to start a game on your Xbox, you may be greeted with this particular error message. If this is the case, the first thing you’ll want to do is wait it out. It says it may take a few minutes, so set aside 5 minutes of your time and wait to see if you can boot back into your game after this brief period. If that doesn’t work, it’s time to move on to the next step.

Give your console a full restart, which can be done in the Settings menu of your Xbox console. You can also press and hold the Xbox Button on your controller and navigate to the “Restart Console” option that is available to you. Try to enter the game again after doing this to see if your game will start. If it doesn’t, we’ve got a final step to do, and it won’t be pretty.

The step that worked for me was completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Doing this will eliminate any corrupt files that may have found their way into the game, and while it may be cumbersome to have to do this, it will get you back into your game, guaranteed. Since Mirage is around 30 GB, it shouldn’t take too horribly long to get back onto your console so you can explore the streets once more.

Now that you’re prepared to get back into the game, ensure you’re ready to explore the world before you with our Assassin’s Creed Mirage section below. Get your hands on plenty of helpful information, and learn which language you should play in for the best experience overall.
