Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Hunting Guide

Take down crocodiles, then hit the ocean in search of sharks.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

There’s a whole bunch of activities to enjoy in Ubisoft’s high-seas adventure, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, hunting in particular. You’ll find both land and ocean-based critters to kill, each one producing various goods that you can sell to general stores and harbormasters for cash, or craft into more useful items. That said, here’s the full list of animals in AC4, along with valuable tips.

Passive and Aggressive Animals

You must approach these two types of creatures in different ways. Passive animals (deer, rabbits…plant eaters in general) will look to escape the moment they see you in the open. Stay within Stalking Zones and attack using a ranged or melee weapon.

As for aggressive animals (think crocodiles and jaguars, all carnivores), get ready to fight! It’s best to kill them from a distance. Get too close and you’ll need to complete timed button presses to survive.

Fast Travel

Should you kill all the animals in a general area, Fast Travel to the closest Viewpoint and they’ll re-spawn, but there’s a downside. Doing this also causes enemies to return.

Don’t Sell Bones

Instead, use bones to craft Berserk Darts, Sleep Darts or Rope Darts. It’s the easiest way to stock up on resources without looting bodies.

Find the White Whale

This elusive creature shows up during online only community events. It may appear throughout the entire Caribbean.
