Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug Off – Dates, How to Start, How to Play

As we mentioned above, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug Off tournament is a seasonal event and will only take place on every third Saturday throughout the summer season. During the event, players will need to catch as many bugs as possible in three minutes to try to earn the max amount of points. After the time runs out, players will be able to sell the bugs they’ve caught for 1.5x their normal value or they can keep them for themselves. In the list below, we’ve detailed all of the Bug Off event dates for the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.

Northern Hemisphere:

Southern Hemisphere:

June 27

July 25

August 22

September 26

November 21

December 19

January 16

February 20

To start the New Horizons Bug Off event, players need to speak with a character named Flick, who will appear in the Residence Area on the day of the event. The tournament will be held from 9 AM – 6 PM and players can participate as many times as they’d like during the allotted time slot. However, it is worth noting that the first attempt will be free, but every attempt after that will cost 500 Bells. However, if you’re able to catch enough bugs during the allotted time, you should be able to reduce the cost by selling them to Felix.

Players will be able to earn points for every bug they catch during their three minutes. Specifically, 1 point will be given for every bug caught, and a bonus 2 points will be given if you catch 3+ bugs during the time limit. Player’s points will stack every time they compete in the event and can be redeemed for some type of random item once they’ve reached a total of 10 points. To redeem your points, and sell your bugs, you’ll need to speak with Felix. The first Bug Off event will be kicking off in the Northern Hemisphere on June 27.
