How to Emote in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As you begin your journey on your new island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, fellow villagers will begin teaching you different emotes that you can use to communicate with others. While you’ll only start with a few, over time you’ll be able to collect all 44 emotes in New Horizons. If you’d like to unlock all the emotes in New Horizons, all you need to do is interact with fellow villagers and overtime they’ll teach them to you.

As you collect emotes, you may want to use them every now and then to connect with other players or villagers. To use an emote in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, simply press ZR on your JoyCon. This will open up a wheel with your top emotes, which can be reassigned by pressing X as you collect more expressions. To see your full list of emotes, press ZR followed by Y.

While collecting emotes and reactions from your villagers may seem silly, you’ll actually be able to earn Nook Miles by learning different reactions, or emotes. Specifically, if you manage to collect 42 of 44 emotes, you’ll earn a total of 6,800 Nook Miles. Additionally, you’ll also earn extra Miles along the way, as there are a handful of tasks that you can complete from Miles simply by talking to different villagers on a regular basis.

However, sometimes talking to villagers can get annoying and you may need to take a break. If that’s the case, there is plenty to be done around the island. Whether it’s catching new bugs and fish, participating in events, or crafting new tools, you should be able to find plenty of things to do that will keep you busy.

Another fun thing to do is to learn how to catch a shark. While they can be hard to catch, these creatures are typically worth a fair amount of Bells. So if you ever find yourself short on funds, grab some bait, head to the water, and cast a line out into the deep blue sea.
