The animal familiars in Hades 2 might be limited in terms of overall options, but they can be extremely useful in the Underworld. These cute companions aren’t just meant for looks, as they provide certain benefits to you and aid you in your survival. Here are all Animal Familiars in Hades 2 listed.

Complete List of Hades 2 Animal Familiars

So far, players can pick between two different animal familiars in Hades 2. There’s a high chance that more familiars could be introduced in future patches, but the two existing options are pretty useful ones. 

Frinos

Frinos the Toad appears at the start of every run and is a beneficial creature. They can offer extra health, but their utilities continue beyond there, as Frinos also leaps onto enemies and deals damage. Once per night, they can also compel a Shade, helping you to get additional Psyche. 

Toula

Toula the Cat is the second of the two animal familiars present in Hades 2. Finding them can be difficult, but the efforts are certainly worth it. Toula has a Death Defy ability which can restore your health under dire circumstances. Additionally, Toula deals damage to enemies and also helps you increase the stock of your fish by catching one per night.

Both Toula and Frinos’ abilities can be upgraded to make them more effective. It will be interesting to see if more familiars will be added as part of the upcoming patches. 

How to Unlock Animal Familiars in Hades 2

You’ll need to follow a few steps before you can compel an animal familiar to join you on your journey. 

• Brew the Woodsy Lifespring Incantation, which creates a sanctuary that spawns randomly and contains a cat that you can pet. 
• Once you reach the edge of Erebus, Hecate will offer you the recipe to craft the Faith of Familiar Spirits Incantation. This incantation allows you to create a gift for your future familiar. 
• You’ll need (2) Nectar and (1) Lotus to create one incantation. 
• You can create more incantations to recruit more than one familiar or upgrade the abilities of your existing one (requires Beast-Loved Morsel alchemy recipe).
