It looks like you might have to beat Dark Souls again if you’re planning on accessing the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

SPOILER ALERT

When you beat Dark Souls’ end boss the game autosaves, allowing you to start in New Game+ mode.

It seems you’re unable to access the newly released DLC from the start of the game on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The same was true in the PC version but many people were expecting an extra menu choice. No such luck. You’ve got a lot of dying to do.

To get to the DLC you’ll need to do the following:

  • Defeat Hydra at Darkroot Basin
  • Defeat Crystal Golem at Darkroot Basin and save Dusk of Oolacile
  • Defeat Crystal Golem at Duke’s Archive and get Broken Pendant
  • Touch Black Fog at lake in Darkroot Basin where player defeat Hydra

Namco Bandai has confirmed this is the route you’ll need to take.

Depending on your level it’s likely to be around 20 hours of play if your save is right at the start of the title. It will be harder if you’re on New Game+ too.

Atorias of the Abyss is available now for $15 on PlayStation 3 or 1200 MSP on the Xbox 360. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition comes to consoles tomorrow, October 26.
