The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt truly set the standard for open-world RPGs for this generation, winning countless awards even years post-launch. With hours upon hours of content and so many characters to truly connect and fall in love with, it’s easy to see why this adventure has been one for the gaming history books which is why news that it’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X is beyond phenomenal.

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Complete Edition is getting new port over to PC as well as coming to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 with ray tracing improvements and other tweaks to make it up to next-gen standard. For those that have yet to dive into the open-world RPG, there will be PS5 and next-gen Xbox versions of the game for retail as well for players to purchase for the first time. For those that already own it on this gen, next-gen upgrades will be free.

According to CD Projekt RED, “Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.”

The studio has already previously confirmed that Geralt’s story is finished in the games, though they are wanting to revisit the Witcher franchise again in the future. This could be a prequel story or a continuation of the current characters, they’ve yet to specify, though the Netflix spinoff from the original Geralt-focused show does bode well for where the games could go next.

We still don’t have a release date for the Xbox Series X or the PS5 currently, we don’t even have a price point, but we do know that both are slated for a November 2020 launch pending no further delays. It will be interesting to see what the first year of next-gen looks like with a smaller launch line-up than usual, even smaller with the impact of COVID-19, so at the very least these ports give us an excuse to dive back into older favorites.
