What’s Changed?

Unlike the PlayStation 3 remaster, the remake of Shadow of Colossus on PlayStation 4 has a few big changes. While the core gameplay, story, and mechanics are all the same, players will experience the world in a brand-new way with completely new visuals. This means that all of the models, environments, and aesthetics of the game have been completely redone from the ground up to completely remake the experience in stunning, updated graphics.

It’s a change that’s easy to see between the two versions of the game, where the PlayStation 3 version was simply an HD remaster of the textures and files already in the game, the PlayStation 4 version has a completely overhauled line-up of assets, which means crisper, smoother, and even more beautiful graphics for fans to enjoy.

The power of the light diminishes the shadows.

PlayStation 4 Pro Support

Like most games coming out on the PlayStation 4, Shadow of the Colossus will support the PlayStation 4 Pro and the additional power that it holds. This means you can choose between a version of the game more suited towards visuals—if you want the most pristine graphics available—or go with a version that targets higher frame rates than visuals. Of course, both options will have their pros and cons, and those without access to a higher resolution monitor or television will most likely want to use the frame-based version to ensure the greatest performance.

Base Gameplay

As we said above, the base gameplay for Shadow of the Colossus is still the same as it has always been. There aren’t any changes to the game’s story, the pacing, or any of the mechanics. All that’s changed in the package is the assets and environment. Aside from visuals, the core gameplay mechanics and story are all the same as the original masterpiece. All the developers have done is worked hard to remaster the title and bring it into the glory of modern day graphics.

Shadow of the Colossus is currently slated to release for the PlayStation 4 on February 6, 2018. We’ll have plenty of content surrounding the game as we grow closer to release, so make sure you bookmark the site and check back often for the most up-to-date information about the game.
