Fans of platforming games are familiar with Shantae, a half-genie heroine who battles evil pirates with a whip of her hair and the ability to transform into magical creatures. She starred in a couple of games, with a third on the way for 3DS later this year. That isn’t enough for the developers at WayForward, who want her to be in an adventure fit for all platforms.
A week ago, the company launched a KickStarter campaign for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, a game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So far, the campaign already reached half its goal, sitting at just under $235,000 of $400,000. The developer recently added the PS Vita platform to the mix, as well as support for the recently announced Vita TV.
As with any KickStarter campaign, there are a number of rewards available, ranging from digital wallpaper to the full game soundtrack to an autographed copy of the original Shantae adventure for Game Boy Color – which is considered a rarity.
You can learn more about Half-Genie Hero through the video below, as well as on the official KickStarter page. Considering what WayForward did with its other games – namely the awesome DuckTales Remastered, it’d be great to see what Shantae can do on new platforms.
If funded, look for Half-Genie Hero in late 2014.
