A spooky new Blair Witch game was debuted out of nowhere during E3 2019, which ultimately sparked rumors of the film franchise’s revival. Though that speculation was quickly squashed, we do at least have a shiny new horror experience on the horizon and now we’ve got 10 minutes of glorious gameplay footage to enjoy.
Courtesy of Game Informer, the above footage shows off more of the game’s actual mechanics and how it fits in-line with the movie franchise. It also wouldn’t be a Blair Witch experience without a camcorder, a staple familiar to the movies to make it look more authentic and realistic. The documentary style seems to translate beautifully into the game, as seen above, while the player hunts for clues and solves puzzles while just trying to survive.
As for when Blair Witch releases, it’s slated for an August 30th launch, just next month, for Xbox One and Windows 10. To learn even more about the upcoming first-person, story-driven title:
“It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods…”
