Valve’s Steam Box To Be Unveiled Sometime This Year, Will Use Linux

Sorry, Windows 8, you’re not welcome here.

Though this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas would be the ideal place to see it, we won’t be getting official details on the Steam Box for a little longer now.  However, it does look like plans for the system’s unveiling this year are in motion, so it’s just a matter of time.

Valve electrical engineer Ben Krasnow has confirmed, according to German gaming site Golem.de, that the Steam Box, which will work directly on televisions as far as Steam game service is concerned, will be unveiled sometime this year, and, according to rough details, it’ll use Linux to run.  Considering that Gabe Newell isn’t exactly the greatest fan of Microsoft’s Windows 8 service, this should come as a surprise to no one.

Other details on the Steam-friendly TV service haven’t been revealed just yet, but with GDC, E3 and other shows on the cusp of happening, we’ll find out soon enough.  Gabe, you sly dog.  What do you have in store for us?  We can’t wait to find out.
