Path of Exile 1’s Curse of the Allflame league is about to go live on July 24, and Grinding Gear Games, the developers behind Path of Exile, has already announced some of its new unique items coming. While new unique items are a bit common to see, these new ones in particular are causing a lot of buzz in the community for how completely outrageously fun they look.

The new unique everyone in the PoE community is talking about is The Crustacean’s Call Primordial Staff, which has the following modifiers:

  • 25+ Chance to Block Spell Damage (implicit)
  • Socketed Spells Are Supported by Level 20 Crab Totem (explicit)
  • Totems Have 100% Increased Movement Speed (explicit)
  • % Increased Spell Damage (explicit)
  • % Increased Totem Duration (explicit)
  • +2 to Maximum Number of Summoned Totems (explicit)

Values could be a little different, as these numbers are the ones shown in the teaser.

As a Path of Exile player, just reading the modifiers is absolutely wild. Socketed spells being supported by a level 20 Crab Totem spell combined with Totems have 100% increased movement speed; basically, it just turned all “immovable” totems into minions… but you know even better because they are crabs, right?

You can see the community raving in the comment section of the trailer above.

The teaser video above shows what these crab totems would look like, but the craziest part is seeing what the build creators could do with this tech; I will wait intently for another Palsteron totem build.

As someone who dabbled in totem builds ages ago, particularly the explosive arrow ballista totem build, one of the biggest struggles is always replanting these totems at every location. Now, these totems become moving crabs, but of course, you’ll be sacrificing a lot of power by equipping a 2H staff just for the tech.

I am still not completely sold on whether there would be a strong build that could come out of it, but I am absolutely positive a lot of players will be trying to have their little crab rave going while farming maps.

Apart from the crab staff, the new unique, Subsume the Source Faithful Helmet, also got unveiled with the following modifiers:

  • 176% Increased Explicit Modifier Magnitudes
  • Has 4 Abyssal Sockets
  • Socketed Rare Abyssal Jewels Will be Consumed
  • One Modifier from Consumed Jewels Will be Retained
  • Cannot Have Non-Abyssal Sockets

Values could be a little different, as these numbers are the ones shown in the teaser.

The helmet shows a lot of potential because of the power of rare abyssal jewels, similar to expensive Adorned builds. There’s a lot of randomness to it, as it only takes one modifier from the consumed abyss jewel, making it a very expensive item or craft to find the things you need.

However, there are some early uses, especially for bow builds wanting a lot of flat damage. Since these flat damage rolls are easy to get on abyss jewels, it could be worth sacrificing early for that extra damage boost for physical or elemental builds.

If you are playing softcore trade, the base helmet should become so expensive that it won’t even be worth it to “craft” your preferred helmet, unless you are going for something incredibly niche.

These two unique items look extremely fun, and PoE has been showing a lot of love for introducing more powerful uniques recently, especially with the previous Screams of the Desiccated belt, as they seem to be focusing more on fun rather than balancing.
