Earlier this week we reported that wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista tried “everything” in his power to get cast as Marcus Fenix in the upcoming Gears of War movie, a film that we know next to nothing about outside of general commentary mentioning that it will be outside of the game franchise’s immediate narrative. Following Bautista’s tweets going viral, Terry Crews shared an image with him and the fellow actor with a follow-up message very much for this casting move to be made.
I like it a lot.

Bautista and Crews together again, we can dig it! It was definitely easy to see that Bautista was a little frustrated with his lack of progress regarding a potential casting, adding “Believe me when I say I’ve tried everything to make this happen.” Plus, he looks exactly like Marcus Fenix, including the block build and facial hair. The dude was born to play him. Alas, it might not be meant to be, but the production is still in its infancy so anything is possible.
Studio head Rod Fergusson of The Coalition also added earlier this year that they were pulling from the comics and books as well because though it won’t be following the games to the very last detail, the Gears franchise is rife with worldbuilding, making it an easy target to hit when bringing some of these characters we know and love to the big screen.
The Gears of the War movie was confirmed by Universal back in 2016 with F. Scott Frazier as the lead writer. We don’t have any release date or casting news at this time, but hopefully, we’ll be learning more soon!
