Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball FighterZ

by Bryan Dawson

The latest issue of V-Jump magazine confirms that Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta will be making their way to Dragon Ball FighterZ (not spelled Dragon Ball Fighters), as well as Android 16 and 18, and a “What if” story mode. For those who have been following the game, Piccolo, Krillin and Trunks were all initially revealed in V-Jump as well, so the reveal of Super Saiyan Blue falls in line with the last three character announcements. While no additional information is available, at the very least we know that SSB Goku and SSB Vegeta will be in Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Bandai Namco and Arc System Works have confirmed that a new build of Dragon Ball FighterZ will be playable at Gamescom next week. However, it’s currently unknown if Super Saiyan Blue Goku or Vegeta, or either of the Androids will be included. The upcoming beta was pushed back to September in order to allow more players to get in, but Bandai Namco also mentioned the potential to have a 10th character added to the closed beta. There’s been no confirmation if either SSB character will be that 10th character, so keep your fingers crossed.

Super Saiyan Blue

Super Saiyan Blue is the most powerful form of Super Saiyan for Vegeta and Goku at the moment. While Goku can use Kaioken to make SSB even more powerful, Vegeta currently has nothing beyond Super Saiyan Blue. It’s unclear whether or not SSB Goku and Vegeta will have the same move set as the normal Super Saiyan versions of the character already confirmed for Dragon Ball FighterZ, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as more information becomes available. At the moment we know that Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta will be pre-order bonuses for anyone who pre-orders the game. In addition, there will be an open beta and early access period for those who pre-order.

Androids and Story Mode

Also mentioned in V-Jump is the fact that Android 18 is confirmed as a playable character and features a special combo attack with Android 17 (who is not yet confirmed as a playable character). In addition, the story mode in the game will include some sort of resurrected form of Android 16 (also confirmed as a playable character). The story will not directly follow the manga or anime, but instead off a “what if” scenario in which Android 16 is revived and battles the Dragon Ball Super characters in what’s being called a “super high-end anime” mode.

3v3 Party Mode

Finally, a new 3v3 party mode has been announced that will allow individual players to take control of each character on a team, instead of the traditional one player controls all three characters. Keep in mind, the traditional method of one player selecting and controlling all three characters on a team is still the main way this game will be played, but the addition of the 3v3 party mode is welcome. Beyond this there’s no additional information available, but hopefully we’ll have more information to share with you very soon.

For now, be sure to check out more info on the beta, as well as any new information that comes out of Gamescom in our Dragon Ball FighterZ game hub!
