Starfield Might Not Be At Bethesda’s E3 Showcase This Year

A rumor cites that Bethesda's new IP might not make an appearance this year.

Bethesda first teased their newest IP Starfield during Bethesda’s E3 showcase last year with a very vague clip showing off that the studio has more exciting adventures in store. Though company execs like Pete Hines and Todd Howard have both mentioned that the newest game is still “far off” in terms of release, that didn’t stop many from hoping to learn more during this year’s event. That being said, it looks like it might not happen.

Game Director Todd Howard recently spoke with IGN for their Unfiltered series and when asked if we were going to be seeing more during E3 this year for the particular space title, he replied “everyone should be patient.”

“I like when you really see the game to when it’s out [to be] as short as possible. As short as people will let me,” he added. He also mentioned that the ideal time for a full reveal is within a week of it going live, which is awesome – though doesn’t stop the teaser from doing its job well as acting like a tease. Still, he added when speaking about his ideal tease window that it’s “just to get people excited, to have those moments of ‘I saw it’, some trailers, let it percolate in your mind.”

It’s understandable why they did tease the game long before it was ready, something VP Pete Hines mentioned back in 2018:

“Would it have been better if it was some years from now and we just go, ‘Surprise, we’re making a game called Starfield, and it’s out X months later?’ Yeah. For sure,” admitted Hines in an earlier interview last year with GameStop. “But at the same time, there is also value in every day between there people aren’t freaking out about us making Fallout 76 as an online-only game as a service and this is all they’re ever making.”

He added, “I try really hard to manage people’s expectations. It’s not like ‘Fallout 76 this year, Starfield next year, and then TES6 the year after.’ The timeline isn’t any different. What’s different is just trying to be transparent and say, ‘Don’t freak out, the next thing we’re doing is single-player [in Starfield], [and] we are making TES6.”

We’ll know soon enough what Bethesda has in store, because their showcase kicks off on June 9th at 5:15 PM PT.
