Although the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise in Star Trek™ The Video Game occupies an alternate timeline, the developers have slipped in a few references to The Original Series and the larger Star Trek™ universe. Here’s a few of the most obvious references we’ve uncovered.

Star Trek Classic References 1

Gorn Champion

This is a boss with a striking resemblance to the Gorn captain Kirk was forced to fight in the episode Arena, from season one of The Original Series. In the game, Kirk and Spock must confront this enemy in a gladiatorial style battle.

Admiral Archer’s Prized Beagle

In one log entry, Scotty mentions his transporter experiment, which resulted in the disappearance of Admiral Archer’s dog. This is a reference to Jonathan Archer, captain of the first Starship Enterprise (NX-01) in the most recent Star Trek™ television series, Enterprise.

Arena

This is the name of an achievement (have Gorn enemy melee Kirk) as well as the name of episode 18 from season one of The Original Series, where Kirk must fight a Gorn captain.

Tribbles

Remember these cute little creatures from The Trouble with Tribbles episode in season 2 of The Original Series? There are seven Tribbles scattered throughout the game. Scanning them with a tricorder unlocks a seven-part log entry detailing Scotty’s troublesome encounter with Tribbles.

The Apple

The name of a series of sub-chapters in the game, as well as the name of episode five from season two of The Original Series.

Dagger of the Mind

This is the name of an achievement (perform 10 mind melds as Spock) and also the name of episode 9 from season one of The Original Series. This is the first episodes where Spock performs a mind meld.

Errand of Mercy

The name of a sub-chapter in the game, as well as the name of episode 26 from season one of The Original Series.

Spock’s preferred melee takedown method against stunned/unsuspecting enemies. If you like quick and elegant melee takedowns, play as Spock!
