Square Enix has made a leap of its own into the world of cloud gaming with the launch of new site Core Online.

It’s a browser-based portal that lets you play Square Enix games in your browser and boasts the launch titles Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas. Said to be arriving soon are Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Tomb Raider Underworld and Gyromancer.

The titles are free to play and supported by trailers or ads users can watch in exchange for more time. If you wish to block the ads then you have the choice of either paying $0.49 a level or $4.99 for access to the full game.

After 10 minutes of playtime the site asks users to choose a video to watch in order to continue, the longer the video, the longer the playtime rewarded. With a quick playtest we were offered to watch a 1 minute, 15 second Mini Ninjas Adventures trailer that granted 25 minutes of playtime, a Game Globe ad that lasts for 24 seconds and awards 6 minutes or a 1 minute, 1 second Koozac trailer that allowed 20 minutes more play.

It’s actually possible to stack your playtime too, with a maximum of 60 minutes of heaped up access.
