Square Enix Files Trademark For New Mana Games

Could the popular role-playing series be making a comeback?
This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an entry in Square Enix’s Mana series, which got its start in the U.S. back on the SNES with Secret of Mana and continued on with entries on the PS One (Legend of Mana) and Nintendo DS (Heroes of Mana). To be fair though, Secret has made its debut on the Wii Virtual Console service and iOS market since then, so it’s been going somewhat.

However, we could be in for a new adventure. According to Internet sources, Square Enix recently filed a trademark for the name “Circle of Mana” indicating that a new entry in the series could be in the works. It’s likely to be released in Japan first, as previous games have been, before the company makes an effort to release it here in the United States.

It’s been a long while coming for the Mana series, so here’s hoping that it makes some sort of comeback in 2013 with an adventure that both old-school fans – and newcomers – will enjoy. It wouldn’t hurt to have some stellar co-op like Secret has, either. Nothing beats playing with friends.
