Sony Confirms Gran Turismo 7 Delayed To 2022

A lot of Sony news has come out this week, and while most of it has been positive, there was a spot of bad news for Gran Turismo fans. According to Sony in a conversation with GQ, Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed to 2022.

We haven’t seen much of Gran Turismo 7 since its announcement, and with gamers looking forward to Thursday’s State of Play event, we imagine many will be hoping for some new information on the game. With the delay pushing the game back into next year though, we imagine you won’t be any new Gran Turismo 7 trailers this week.

As for why the game has been delayed, the main reasoning seems to be due to the COVID pandemic which has caused development issues for a number of studios over the past year.

“GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022,” Sony explained. “With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

It’s unfortunate that the game needs to be delayed, but the reasons are perfectly understandable, and Gran Turismo 7 isn’t the only game that’s suffered delays due to the pandemic. We imagine with the extra development time, the final product will be well worth the wait.
