Sifu has been a hit, in several meanings of the word. And it’s been a while since we’ve really heard from the developers about what’s next. We knew things like difficulty options were probably coming, but now we know what is indeed coming, and when. A new 2022 roadmap was released, showing free content plans for Sifu through the rest of the year.

The first update even has a date! On May 3, the first major Sifu update will launch alongside the game’s physical retail edition. This update introduces three difficulty options: Student, Disciple and Master. Outfit selection and “advanced” training are also part of the rollout. From there, three more updates are planned.
This summer will see new “advanced scoring” and gameplay modifiers added to Sifu, and a list of those modifiers is included. Here’s what’s on deck:
- No Pendant
- One Health Point
- No Guard
- Stronger Enemies
- Golden Staff
- All Skills Unlocked
- Bullet Time
Sifu’s fall update will introduce a replay editor feature, alongside new outfits and more modifiers. The final update of 2022 planned will drop more new outfits and modifiers in the winter, as well as a new game mode called “Arenas.”
Earlier this year Sifu was released to wide acclaim, due to its airtight gameplay and high level of challenge. That second part of course led to a fresh round of difficulty discourse, but developer Sloclap responded quite quickly with plans to look into adding different options. And here we are!
It’ll be interesting to see how the difficulty settings impact things like trophies, especially since Sifu will get a tougher choice with the easier one. Surely, the Git Gud crowd is gearing up for more gud to git? Who can say.
