First Shack Smash Tournament Series Event to Take Place at SXSW 2020

The 20K Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitational will be one of the main highlights of SXSW 2020.

UPDATE: The first-ever Shack Smash Ultimate Invitational that was scheduled to take place in Austin, Texas has been officially postponed. Shacknews announced the postponement via Twitter on Thursday, March 12th. You can find the official announcement below:

SXSW 2020 is set to be a very exciting event when it comes to the world of video games and especially esports. Shacknews Electronic Sports will be looking to ramp up this excitement to all-new levels thanks to its first-ever Shack Smash Tournament Series event that will be taking place at SXSW 2020. 

The $20,000 invitational will feature Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and will be taking place at the HyperX Esports Lounge powered by Shacknews at SXSW 2020 in Austin, Texas. Sixteen of the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players from around the world will be gathering together from March 20th to the 21st to see which of them will be able to secure a top-eight placing and a slice of the double-elimination tournament’s lucrative $20,000 prize pool. 

Viewers will be able to catch all of the live-action from the SXSW 2020 Shack Smash Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitational on the Shacknews Twitch Channel or through VODS via the Shacknews YouTube channel. Competitors and casters for the highly anticipated event will be revealed leading up to the March 20th start date.

Terrence “TKbreezy” Kershaw and Phillip “EE” Stewart were revealed to be the first two casters for the highly anticipated competition on Monday, March 2nd.

  • Shuto “Shuton” Moriya
  • Toriano “Toast” Warren

With the cancellation of SXSW 2020, the first Shack Smash Tournament Series event of 2020 will be taking place at a private event. We will update this piece with further details when they are announced.
