Sega: Thanks for Interest Anarchy Reigns Fans

No show for title at E3

Despite some folks’ worries that Anarchy Reigns mightn’t make it to the West, there’s been continual interest from a potential fanbase, and for that, Sony is apparently thankful.

Developer Platinum Games announced the game’s release date had been changed to the status of TBC, even with the title at one point being classed as finished. The game was originally due to hit the US on July 6th.

“We break the bad news about Anarchy Reigns US/EU release date – Sega has decided to change the date to TBC,” Platinum Games stated.

“While our work on the game is finished, localised, and ready to go, as publisher, Sega gets to make the final decision as to when it is released. The Japanese release date, however, remains unchanged for 5th July 2012.”

Platinum vehemently denies accusations of a cancellation of the game in the West, though did mention that the Japanese edition is localized and comes packaged with all the languages the game is intended to be in.

“In the West, Sega is looking for the best time to put it out,” Platinum added. “There will still be ways for you to get it if you know where to go. We’re still 100 per cent behind the game and we still want to connect with you and play with you and have a good time. So let’s make sure that happens no matter what bad news we get.”

There were further worries from fans when they noticed Sega’s list of E3 showcased titles didn’t include Anarchy Reigns.

When pushed, Sega Europe made the comment: “Thank you for your inquiry. Your interest in Anarchy Reigns is very important to us. Unfortunately, we have no new information regarding Anarchy Reigns in our territory at this time. Please continue to check out the Sega website for any future announcements.”

There’s a huge restructure to Sega’s business in the West currently taking place right now, with focus currently shifting to core IP such as Football Manager and Total War along with digital releases.

December 2011 saw Anarchy Reigns put back to July this year, at the time the company’s VP chalking it down simply to a desire to make sure the title was a bigger release.

“Anarchy Reigns brings a new take to the brawler genre and we’ve decided to take a little more time to deliver the full knockout punch,” he said.

“I can’t reveal much now, but it’s something to do with scale. Let’s just say traditional one on one or two versus two fighters will be a thing of the past…”
