Sea of Stars is Getting a Free 3-Player Multiplayer Update So You Can Cry With Your Friends

More content makes its way to Sea of Stars soon.

Sea of Stars came out of nowhere last year and stole the hearts of many a player, and quickly became a favorite around the Prima office. It looks like the fun isn’t ready to stop just yet, with a new trailer showcasing an unexpected and exciting new offering for the much-loved RPG — three-player multiplayer.

While the short teaser video doesn’t give us much information, I’m already drooling at the thought of exploring this gorgeous pixel world with a couple of friends. This could also be the perfect way to introduce a loved one to the world of turn-based games if they’re willing to jump in with you. However, a few scant details have been made available regarding this new mode, according to the official description from the video above:

Dubbed “Single Player+”, this mode allows for three players to journey together in Sea of Stars. Staying true to the game’s core turn-based roots, each player will engage in traversal and combat with a new “Co-op timed hits” mechanic as they embark with friends on Sea of Stars’ grand adventure. The new mode is currently in development and more details are set to be released soon.

While the ability to play online may come down the pipeline in the future, it looks like this mode is hearkening back to the good-ole days of the Super Nintendo by letting up to three players join on this adventure together in the comfort of their homes. It looks chaotic in the best possible way, and I’m intrigued to see how the new co-op timed hits are going to play out.

Sea of Stars is an incredibly unique experience, one that brings the joys of nostalgia to a new age by doing more than just relying on it’s art-style to sell copies. And while there is no expected release date for this update, Sabotage Studio’s track record leads me to believe that they’ll be releasing this sometime this year. I’ll just need to track down two other friends to play with before then.
