Roblox Can Now Support M-Rated Games For Older Audiences

It seems that the Roblox platform is about to get more mature.

It’s been a while in the making, but it looks like older gamers can finally play some Roblox experiences catered directly toward them. After sitting in the pot for a fair few months after the announcement, it looks like the first batch of 17+ Rated Roblox experiences are being rolled out to the masses, according to a new update sent out by the Roblox development team. What Does This Update Mean For Older Gamers?

While there are still a few subjects that are off limits, including sexual content, it seems that this new update will allow gamers who go through a rigorous identification process the ability to jump into some more “mature” games. According to the Roblox Blog Post that goes over all of the details;

Now, creators will be able to offer experiences for those 17 and older that feature more mature themes and storylines like in TV shows or stand-up comedy. These experiences may contain more violence, blood, or crude humor. You can read more about what’s permitted here.

From Manuel Bronstein, Chief Product Officer @ Roblox

Does this mean we are about to see a whole new era of First Person Shooter titles on the platform, with games like Frontlines already pushing the graphical limitations of the platform? It’ll be interesting to see what will come down the pipeline shortly, but as it stands, this seems to be a great way to get a new audience interested in Roblox. The following items will be permitted in these new types of experiences:

  • Intense Violence
  • Heavy/Realistic Blood
  • Moderate Crude Humor
  • Romantic Themes
  • Unplayable Gambling Content
  • Presence of Alchohol

It’s hard to say, but I’m interested and invested at this point.

However, if you’re a parent worried about this change, you don’t need to worry. We’ve covered how to child-proof a Roblox account to avoid accidental exposure to some of the more sensitive topics that may find their way into these types of experiences. These changes begin today, so older players can begin creating the experiences they’ve always dreamed about.
