Rage 2 managed to pull off what the first game didn’t by giving a massive open world that players wanted to explore, despite a few hiccups here and there. The teams associated with the sequel did a great job and bringing the explosive wasteland to life once more and it looks like they are already gearing up for Rage 3.
Of course with any continuation of a franchise, that all depends on the level of success. iD Software studio director Tim Willits recently sat down with the team at The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the state of the franchise, saying that they are absolutely hoping to get the full greenlight for Rage 3 “as soon as possible.”
What’s interesting is that Rage 2, despite launching this month, is already on sale. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s doing poorly – especially with sales being incredibly common this time of year – though it does provide an interesting twist when gathering data for a Rage 3 pitch. The reactions to the game have been mixed thus far, some hailing it as the best shooter of the decade, while others felt that the open-world was uninspired.
Since this is all just blanketed desires at this point, we don’t know literally anything about Rage 3 – not even if it will continue being helmed by iD and Avalanche. It will be interesting to see the sales patterns for Rage 2 with live updates planned throughout the Summer, as well as the continued feedback that is pouring in.
As for the game that just launched, Rage 2 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. You can also check out our full review right here.
