PUBG’s Anniversary Video Offers a Sneak Peek of the 4×4 Map

by Larryn Bell

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is celebrating its first birthday on Steam, having launched on Steam Early Access one year ago today. To commemorate PUBG’s one-year milestone, PUBG Creative Director Brendan “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene and PUBG CEO Chang Han Kim have released a new video where they thank players and fans for their continued support of PUBG.

In the video, fans can get a sneak peek at the upcoming 4×4 island map headed to PUBG later this year. The new island map consists of three small islands intersected by several canals. The 4×4 map is smaller than PUBG’s original map, Erangel, making for shorter matches and more action-packed battles.

For a glimpse at some of the work-in-progress footage of the upcoming 4×4 map in PUBG, skip about halfway through the video below, just under the two-minute mark.

The developers at PUBG Corp. initially revealed the 4×4 island map in their 2018 PUBG Roadmap, where they also mentioned their plans to create a larger, 8×8-size map as well. Players can look forward to trying out the 4×4 map on the Experimental Test Servers sometime soon, according to a recent tweet from Greene.

Recently, PUBG has been busy with the launch of PUBG Mobile, a portable version of PUBG that allows fans to enjoy battle royale on the go. Following its debut in China and a soft-launch in Canada last week, PUBG Mobile should now be available worldwide on both iOS and Android.
