Pokemon Legends Z-A Officially Announced on Pokemon Day

Back to Kalos, baby!

Fans were shocked by the announcement of Pokemon Legends Z-A, revealed in the latest Pokemon Presents livestream during the 2024 Pokemon Day, marking a return to both the Legends series and to the French-inspired region Kalos.

Numerous rumors were running around during the last few days about what would be the next big announcement for 2024. Most guesses would go into Pokemon Black and White remakes, which would supposedly be the next titles to be remade for modern consoles. Others would put their money on a Legends-style title. But most wouldn’t guess that Kalos would be the revisited region of all places.

The title also references the supposedly lost Pokemon Z title as well as the character AZ itself, who has a mysterious past in the Kalos games. A third, enhanced version of the Gen 6 games never came to reality back in the day, even though there was enough evidence around both games to support its existence, with Zygarde being the most blatant one. Its storyline was instead transferred to the Sun & Moon games a generation later.

The trailer showcases many of the Kalos Pokemon in a developing Lumisia City, a place where both people and Pokemon can coexist. The last few moments also confirmed the presence of Mega Evolutions, one of the most beloved mechanics from the older games that never made a comeback in recent titles.

It’s still uncertain if we’ll be seeing new Mega forms in this title, but there’s little to no reason not to expect that, considering how they even introduced new evolution forms in Legends: Arceus. But not much more is known about the game, as we only had some quick shots of Pikachu running around the city with other fellow Pokemon.

The game is scheduled to be released worldwide in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch. But with many rumors and speculations about an upcoming Switch successor, it would be great to see this new Legends title as a release game for this possible new console too.
