Pokémon GO Fest 2018 Draws Over 21,000 Trainers

by Larryn Bell

Pokémon GO Fest 2018 was considerably more successful this time around, compared to last year’s inaugural event that was plagued by connection issues and angry attendees. This year’s outdoor event faired much better, drawing in over 21,000 attendees to Chicago’s historic Lincoln Park during the two-day event.

Pokémon GO Fest 2018: A Walk in the Park featured a 1.8-mile walking course containing various Pokémon habitats. Trainers could encounter and capture various Pokémon species unique to those habitats while also conducting Special Research to obtain new rewards. Along the way, Trainers could also discover the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as well as a variety of other Pokémon, including Ludicolo, Metagross, and Torkoal.

Trainers who couldn’t attend Pokémon GO Fest 2018 were still able to join the festivities by participating in Professor Willow’s Global Challenge, which unlocked bonus content for Trainers worldwide. Until July 23rd, Trainers can enjoy double the Candy when catching Pokémon and hatching Eggs, as well as a guaranteed Rare Candy during Raids.

If you missed out on the event, you can still take part in Zapdos Day on July 21st, when the Legendary Pokémon Zapdos will be available in Raids across the world in Pokémon GO. The start times for Zapdos Day are as follows:

  • The Asia-Pacific Rregion: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. JST (GMT +9)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. UTC (GMT +0)
  • The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)

While Pokémon GO may not have the same player base it had when the app launched back in 2016, the game still has a dedicated community that is still going strong two years later. For tips on how to improve your skills as a Trainer, visit our Pokémon GO game hub.
