Reggie Fils-Aime has been doing a lot of talk as of late regarding the Wii U.  I mean, he is the president of Nintendo of America and all, but some of his statements – like the one where he insists third-party games look better on that console than others – are a bit out there.

In an interview with CNET, he has now called out the competitors to try and innovate on the same level as the Wii U.  Said Fils-Aime, “In the end, our competitors need to react to what we’re doing in the marketplace and need to figure out what their innovation will be.”

He continued, “It’s likely that faster processors and pretty pictures won’t be enough to motivate consumers.  They need to react to what we’ve done and we need to continue innovating with the Wii U and we will.”

As far as the Wii U’s place in the industry, possibly being behind the forthcoming Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4, Fils-Aime stated, “For us, launching new systems is about bringing new consumer experiences to the marketplace and we’re doing that with Nintendo Land and third-party publishers are doing it with games like Zombi U.  For us, now is the right time to launch new hardware.”

We’ll see how it fares after the holiday season…
