Nintendo Switch Might Be Getting An Upgraded OLED Display

Time to Switch.

In a report from Bloomberg last night, news about the Nintendo Switch getting an upgrade came out. It seems that Samsung will be helping Nintendo manufacture seven-inch OLED screens for a potential new Switch model.

Nintendo Switch Might Be Getting An Upgraded OLED Display

“Samsung Display Co. will start mass production of 7-inch, 720p-resolution OLED panels as early as June with an initial monthly target of just under a million units, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal matters. The displays are slated for shipment to assemblers around July, the people said. Representatives for Nintendo and Samsung Display declined to comment.”

A new Switch model has been the industry’s worst kept secret and this furthers the rumor mill that we will be seeing one sooner rather than later. An OLED screen certainly would help the battery life of the Nintendo Switch as well as offer a higher contrast. It seems like the next-evolution for the handheld system.

Of course, nothing has been officially stated by Nintendo, but if all of this is true, then it looks like we might see a “Switch Pro” or whatever Nintendo names it by this holiday.

With the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S last holiday, it’s probably time for Nintendo to increase a small performance increase to the Switch.

It’s still selling incredibly well, but if Nintendo wants to keep this momentum going strong for the Nintendo Switch’s fifth year on the market, this is a perfect way.
