The Nintendo Switch is a massively popular console, this is no surprise. In the latest round of financials out of Nintendo, it announced that the Nintendo Switch sold 103.54 million units as of December 31.

As far as home consoles go, this is now the best-selling Nintendo console. The Nintendo DS sold around 154 million units in its day making it the highest-selling Nintendo piece of hardware, but it’s classified under the handheld family.
The Wii sits at 101.63 million, so the Nintendo Switch hitting that milestone in just 5 years is tremendous.
Of course, Nintendo also released numbers for its game sales, and yes you guessed it, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the highest selling Nintendo Switch game.
Mario Kart 8 as of December 31 2021 has sold 43.35 million, followed closely behind by Animal Crossing New Horizons at 37.62 million.
For those wondering about Metroid Dread’s sales number, it currently sits around 2.7 million units sold. So it isn’t quite the best-selling Metroid game of all time, but it’s certainly making pace to do just that.
Nintendo shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to both hardware and software sales in the coming year.
