Mass Effect 3 is still keeping us quite busy eight months past its initial release.  The upcoming Omega downloadable content has us intrigued, and the Wii U version of the game, which makes use of the GamePad screen, looks interesting as well.  But that isn’t stopping BioWare Montreal from moving forward with the next chapter in the series.

The team has announced that the next Mass Effect game is already in the works, and while it didn’t divulge any details in terms of storyline or whether Commander Shepard would make any sort of return (we doubt it – how about giving focus to an alien character?), it has been confirmed that the game will utilize the Frostbite engine technology – the same that’s being used for the forthcoming Dragon Age III.

BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy stated, “To ensure a proper and effective transition, we’ll continue to be supported by the Edmonton studio through the game’s development, working with and learning from them on some critical initiatives.”

The team is also looking into new directions for the series to go in.  “You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling,” stated Roy.

We’ll bring you more news on the project as it’s revealed.  Meanwhile, be sure to check out Mass Effect 3 when it arrives for Wii U on November 18th.
