The upcoming Resident Evil movie is officially underway under the helm of 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts. Though when most people think of Resident Evil and its big-screen presence, they immediately envision Mila’s take on the franchise, this time around will bring about a more true-to-source vision to life.
Roberts will be joined by screen writer Greg Russo in addition to James Wan as the film’s producer. We’ve previously known that the upcoming reboot will be linked to Resident Evil 7, and now Roberts is giving another inside look as to what’s to come, including how the movie will have a distinctly classic Resident Evil feel.
“We are in active development of that at the moment,” he said when talking about getting the vision up and running. “I pitched them a take, and they really loved it.” He added, “It’s going to be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game.”
The Resident Evil movie is the latest project to come from Constantine Film and according to our sources, it remains a high priority for the company at large. Not too surprising given that the Resident Evil empire has amassed over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide and it looks like video game movie adaptations are making a huge comeback. Whether that will be worth it remains to be seen, but we’re interested in seeing how this Resident Evil movie stacks up to the originals.
Thanks, ScreenRant.
