What do you know. It seems audiences have developed a penchant for watching over-the-top action games based on a survival horror franchise.
Paul W.S. Anderson – not to be confused with The Master director Paul Thomas Anderson, mind you – has confirmed that he will be returning this fall to film a sixth Resident Evil film, the latest in the long-running action series. It will once again feature Milla Jovovich as Alice, the genetically altered warrior who apparently can’t stand dead things. No word yet on who else will be cast, but the movie already has a release date of September 12, 2014.
While some of you may be a bit tired of the franchise, it’s still making heaps of cash. Resident Evil: Retribution, the latest entry which came out last year, only cost $65 million to make and somehow cleaned up over $200 million worldwide. This is following the prior successes in the series, including Apocalypse, Extinction, and Afterlife. (We’re sensing a theme.)
No word yet on Capcom’s involvement, but we’re sure it’ll be included in Alice’s shenanigans somewhere…
